The Orange Line Phase I – M.I.C. to Earlington Heights Connector project for Miami-Dade County (MDC) was bid on August 1, 2008. Odebrecht-Tower-Community Joint Venture (ODTC) awarded a contract to a Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) led joint venture on April 30, 2009, and issued the Notice to Proceed (NTP) on April 30, 2009, with a contract completion date of April 29, 2012.
The Central Mesa LRT Extension is a 3.1 mile (Double Track) extension of the existing Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail Transit (LRT) line from its eastern terminus at Sycamore and Main Streets in west Mesa to a new terminus at Mesa Drive and Main Street in central Mesa. The project will include four (4) new at grade passenger stations and a park-and-ride facility.
As systems subcontractor on this project, Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) worked on DART’s Northwest and Southeast Extensions (CMGC-1 project). The 13-mile long double-track railroad included the Northwest Line Segment 1B and Southeast Line Segments 1 and 2. MEC’s scope of work included the signal system, 23 railroad crossing warnings, the DC Catenary OCS system, installation of owner supplied TPSS, and communication equipment installation.
The TRAX Airport Light Rail Project will extend the current TRAX line from the Arena Station, and connect most major Utah sites and destinations to the Salt Lake City International Airport. This new six-mile LRT will provide a direct transfer from the West Station on top of the newly renovated North Temple Viaduct to the FrontRunner Commuter Train – which will eventually connect all commuters from Ogden to Provo.
This project provided a transit alternative to congested roads, and served as a focal point for new development along the Central Avenue corridor and areas east of the Phoenix central business district, including the Sky Harbor Airport, Tempe and Mesa. It is anticipated that the Phoenix Light Rail System will generate approximately 15,300 hours of daily travel-time benefits by 2020.
As part of a joint venture, Mass. Electric Construction Co. completed design verification and construction of Amtrak’s 157-mile electrified high-speed rail segment between New Haven, CT and Boston, MA in 1998. The line included 224 bridges and several tunnels, the longest being the 4,000-foot Back Bay Tunnel in Boston.
The Portland I-205 Extension Project was seven miles of light rail double track along the I-205 corridor east of Portland. As part of Tri-Met’s South Corridor Expansion, an already successful rail network, the project provides MAX Green Line Light rail service by connecting to the existing transit center at Gateway and proceeding south into Clackamas County along a dedicated rail right of way.
The Grand Opening of the first phase of the TECO Line Streetcar System took place on Saturday, October 19, 2002. The line is a 2.3 mile section of double and single track that connects the downtown area with the Channelside district and historic Ybor City.
This bid-build project for the traction power electrification of Charlottte’s first light rail system included installation of 7 miles of at-grade and 3 miles of elevated track. Eight pre-fabricated 1.5MW substations and related feeder work were performed along the main right of way. In addition, 2 miles of simple catenary, substations and auxilliary systems were provided at the yard and maintentance facility.
